HIRING PROCESS
WHY WORK WITH US
At Nāgrika, you will be part of a small and thoughtful team working on some of the most important yet overlooked questions shaping India’s smaller cities. Our work connects research, people, and practice by bringing citizen voices, lived realities, and local knowledge into policy conversations and public understanding. Here, you will not be limited by rigid hierarchy or narrow roles. You will take ownership of meaningful work, build relationships across cities and communities, and grow through trust, responsibility, and learning. Whether through research, programs, writing, or partnerships, you will contribute to long-term change while developing strong skills and a deeper understanding of urban India. You will also have the opportunity to live and work in Dehradun, with access to nature, a slower pace of life, and the possibility of a healthier work-life balance than many large cities. If you care about integrity, curiosity, and doing work that matters, Nāgrika offers the chance to grow while creating real impact.

Testimonials
“I joined Nagrika as a fresher and stayed for three years! Nagrika had been a nurturing space for me, allowing me to explore ideas, while also providing the required guidance when I needed it. I got the opportunity to work on some exciting projects that not only utilised my skill set, but also added to it. I got to deep dive into policy matters and understand the myriad ways governance issues affect our daily lives. At the same time, I learnt the importance of making these insights freely available in ways that are easily understandable. What makes Nagrika special is that it truly embodies its mandate of working on and from smaller cities, which are otherwise routinely ignored in the urban research ecosystem. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here!”
