Turning Beggars into Choosers

"The quality of our voice determines the quality of our development. (...) The moment we strengthen our voices and make it heard at the proper platform, (...) then I believe the real democracy can come.
"

In the 8th episode of Season 1 of our podcast “Talk in the Town”, we speak with Mr. Chandra Mishra, the visionary founder of Beggars Corporation—a social impact startup based in Varanasi. Driven by the motto “Don’t Donate, Invest”, the corporation seeks to empower the underprivileged by transforming beggars into entrepreneurs. By fostering self-reliance and dignity, Mr. Mishra’s approach challenges traditional charity models and paves the way for sustainable social change.

As a proud common man, Mr. Mishra believes that the quality of the layperson’s voice determines the quality of a city’s development. In this engaging conversation, he shares his journey of choosing Varanasi as the focal point for his venture, highlighting the untapped potential that smaller cities hold in shaping the nation’s future. Through his work, he aims to redefine how society perceives and supports marginalised communities.

Our Talk in the Town series continues to explore how leaders from smaller cities are strengthening the relationship between citizens and policy, making local voices central to policymaking.
