Engaging Communities to Preserve the Doon Valley

"Wherever the opportunity arises, engage actively with the government, because eventually, the government is also a part of us."

The 2nd episode of the 1st season of our podcast “Talk in the Town”, features Mr. Lokesh Ohri, renowned anthropologist and the founder of Been There, Doon That (BTDT)—a vibrant community in Dehradun. BTDT has been fostering a sense of community and cultural pride by organising mostly free heritage walks throughout the Doon Valley. These walks not only reconnect residents with their city’s rich history but also create a platform for meaningful civic engagement.

During the conversation, Mr. Ohri shares the inspiring genesis of BTDT, reflecting on how the initiative began as a simple idea to explore local heritage and has since grown into a movement that amplifies citizens' voices. Through these community walks, BTDT has not only sparked an appreciation for Dehradun’s heritage but also enabled citizens to advocate for positive change. Mr. Ohri shares stories of how BTDT’s collective efforts have successfully reached decision-makers.

He also discusses how to find opportunities for community engagement and inspire citizens to participate in shaping the city’s future. Don’t miss these stories of civic passion and cultural revival!
