Citizen Initiative to Save Udaipur’s Lakes
"मैं आज तक जितना पर्यावरण और पारिस्थिति के बारे में समझ पाया हूँ, ... (उसका कारण) सिर्फ आम नागरिकों की समझ और उनके खुद के अनुभव हैं।"
On Episode 2 of Season 2 of our podcast “Talk in the Town”, we are joined by Dr. Anil Mehta from Udaipur, the Joint Secretary of Jheel Sanrakshan Samiti (JSS) – a nonprofit organisation dedicated to the conservation and well-being of Udaipur’s lakes. For the past 30 years, JSS has been at the forefront of protecting the city’s water bodies, addressing pollution, and advocating for better water management practices.
JSS was formed when concerned citizens like Dr. Mehta came together to address the growing challenges of water pollution and urban neglect that threatened Udaipur’s iconic lakes. Since then, the group has made remarkable progress in cleaning and preserving the city’s natural and cultural heritage. One of their major achievements is the development of the Lakes Conservation Plan, which laid the groundwork for sustainable lake management. Their persistent efforts also led to the establishment of the Lakes Development Authority, an institutional body focused on long-term lake conservation.
Tune in to learn more about how grassroots community action is making a difference in safeguarding Udaipur’s precious water resources.
